Gratis Garlic

Lately I haven’t been putting as much time into the garden as I’d like. Thankfully, the box that I’m most actively working in has progressed nicely over the last six weeks.

I imagine I should start thinning the seedlings out relatively soon, as things are getting a little crowded. There are some bare patches, however, and today I filled in a few with five garlic cloves which I picked up last week at East Bay Nursery. I grabbed the last package they had; I asked the clerk if I could haggle on price since one of its two bulbs had gone bad, and she just gave me the package for free. So, this growing effort is very low stakes, which seems appropriate for a poorly timed planting of something I’ve never tried to grow before. I hope it goes well, though, since garlic is one of my very favorite ways to season food.
