Beans and Cukes Emerge
It’s been one week since I set up a tray of Second Generation seeds. I’ve been taking them outside during the day and bringing them back indoors at night, when temperatures have stayed relatively low. No signs of life yet from the Cha Jogi perilla, Kamo eggplant, Lady Choi peppers, roselle, Gaeguri Chamoe or Sagwa Chamoe, but six of nine Suyo Long cucumbers have emerged, along with all six Joseon Shorty cucumbers (from two years ago). Every bean has also come out (six black chestnut soybeans and whatever the brown beans are). In the large Orta Seed Pot, 11 of 12 Hirayama kai choy have popped up since I planted them two weeks ago.
The black chestnut soybeans are shedding their black and white-speckled coats to reveal a beautiful green and purple color combination.
The Suyo Long cucumbers aren’t quite as impressive, but I’m eager to see how they develop.
The Korean cosmos in the small Orta Seed Pot haven’t come out yet, but I hope to see them soon, along with the rest of their Second Generation comrades.
